Summary The lifelong hard work for the count made the servant Anton a cripple. Everybody calls him Crooked Anton. When, after the end of the war, the land of the count gets divided by the farmers, Anton and his family receives a piece and hopes now to be able to work finally freely and for his own good fortune. But an IOU from the past and a past intrigue don't allow Anton and his family to find peace. When the farmers of the village find more self-confidence and power and Annegret, Anton's daughter, leaves the village, it seems that an actual new beginning for Anton will become possible. The film paints an impressive panorama of the development of a minor village in Mecklenburg from the end of the war to the 17 June 1953--from http://defafilmlibrary.com
