Performer/Participant Interviewer: Kae Halonen
Summary Douglas Fraser, a union activist and former member of the Chrysler board was interviewed by Kae Halonen as part of the Center for the Study of Automotive Heritage's MotorCities Memories Oral History Project. Mr. Fraser worked at a DeSoto plant in the Detroit area and was a union organizer. He reminisces about the early union days in the auto plants and the sit-down strike that took place at the DeSoto plant in the 1930s. He was a union steward during World War II and talks about the influx of women and African Americans working on the line at that time. He was President of United Automobile Workers and the Union representative on the Chrysler board during the bailout in the late 1970s
